About our Group Trustee Board

The Group Trustee Board plays a vital role in the running of the Scout Group. The Trustees make decisions and carry out administrative tasks to ensure that the best quality Scouting can be delivered to young people in the Group.

The Trustee Board exists to support the Group Lead Volunteer & Group Leadership Team in meeting the responsibilities of their roles. Members of the Trustee Board must act collectively as charity trustees of the Group, and in the best interests of its members. Charity Trustees

Stourport (Mid Severn) is a registered charity and all members of the Trustee Board are charity trustees and therefore must be over 18. Trustees are legally and financially responsible for the running of the Group.

Financial year, annual report & AGM

Stourport (Mid Severn)’s financial year runs from 1st April to 31st March, the Annual Report and financial accounts from that year are presented to the Stourport (Mid Severn) Scout Council at the AGM within 6 months of the end of the financial year.

Trustee Board Membership

The Trustee Board is made up of three types of members:

Ex-officio members have a role on the Trustee Board due to their role in Scouting. Our Group Lead Volunteer is an ex-officio member.

Appointed members are appointed by the Scout Council at our AGM. This is following a rigorous and transparent selection process. This includes the Chair of the Trustees, and the Treasurer.

The current Trustees make a proposal to the Scout Council at the AGM, where they then approve or reject the proposed name(s). Vacancies for appointed Trustees only occur at the end of their period of appointment.

Co-opted members are appointed by the Trustee Board. Co-opting offers us a way of broadening the skillset of the Trustee Board, as well as introducing potential new Trustees mid year. The Trustee Board must ensure that any co-opted appointments are made following an appropriate selection process, similar to that for Appointed Trustees.

All Trustees must meet the legal requirements set out by the charity commission, and are subject to checks by Stourport (Mid Severn) and Scouts UK.
